In 2020, most parts of the UK were almost completely reliant on the internet for all aspects of life – from work and education, to communication, shopping, and exercise.
It’s not surprising, therefore, that from the beginning of January to the end of December, Openreach saw broadband usage more than double, with Boxing Day being held as the busiest day ever across the network.
The chart below highlights the peaks in the broadband network throughout a year of unprecedented demand.
Despite the pandemic, home working and big surges from live sport and gaming, most networks coped amazingly, and continue to put additional measures in place to cope with anticipated growth in 2021.
